Two key projects on Meander Valley Council’s priority list will proceed thanks to the Nationals in Government, Tasmanian Nationals Senator Steve Martin has announced.
Senator Martin delivered the good news in the company of Meander Valley Mayor Wayne Johnston and Lyons Nationals candidate Deanna Hutchinson.
“This is real money from the 2018/19 Budget, not an election promise, and Council has received the letter from the Commonwealth confirming this,” Senator Martin said.
“The Nationals in Government are providing $6.85 million for the Westbury Recreation Grounds Facility and Capacity Upgrades project,” Senator Martin said.
“This involves a complete site redevelopment including, new club rooms, meeting rooms, a commercial kitchen area and the upgrade of existing change rooms to cater for growing users, travelling teams, umpires, and female participants.”
Senator Martin said a the Nationals in Government were also investing $225,000 to establish a centralised play area in Hadspen
“Hadspen is an urban growth area experiencing the early stages of development that will see a doubling of the population,” Senator Martin said.
“The development of this play area and public toilet facility is in response to vastly increasing community demand.”
“I visit these communities, listen to what locals want and go and fight for them in Canberra. It is great news that Deputy Prime Minister and Nationals Leader Michael McCormack has agreed to commit the funding,” Senator Martin said.
“It is all about my agenda to get a fair share for regional Tasmania and help build stronger local communities.”
