The Westbury Bowls Club in the Meander Valley is set for a major upgrade courtesy of a $235,000 sports grant delivered by the Nationals in Government, Tasmanian Nationals Senator Steve Martin has announced.
Senator Martin delivered the good news at the Club with locals and Lyons Nationals candidate Deanna Hutchinson.
“This is real money from the 2018/19 Budget, not an election promise,” Senator Martin said.
“The Nationals in Government are providing $200,000 for a new synthetic green and $35,000 for a heating and plumbing overhaul in a building that dates back to 1981,” Senator Martin said.
Senator Martin said the need for the upgrade was raised with him by several locals when he was door knocking in Westbury last year.
“This is a valued community asset. I took the issue to Canberra and brought Sports Minister and Deputy Nationals Leader to Westbury to visit the Club.”
“It is great that as a consequence, she has released the funding for this project,” Senator Martin said.
“It is all about our agenda to get a fair share for regional Tasmania and help build stronger local communities.”
Lyons Nationals candidate Deanna Hutchinson said bowls clubs were a great way for locals, particularly seniors, to say connected in their community.
“That is what the Nationals are about: putting locals first,” Ms Hutchinson said.
