Nationals in Government commit $6.5m in funding for West Coast Council

Two key projects on West Coast Council’s  priority list will proceed if the Nationals are returned to Government, Tasmanian Nationals Senator Steve Martin has announced.

Senator Martin delivered the good news in the company of West Coast Mayor Phil Vickers and Braddon Nationals candidate Sally Milbourne in Zeehan on Tuesday.

“The Nationals in Government will commit $4 million for a major overhaul of West Coast sport and recreation facilities,” Senator Martin said

“The projects involve upgrades to existing facilities, including heritage playing surface, change rooms and other works.”

Senator Martin said a re-elected Liberal and Nationals Government would also invest $2.5 million for  West Coast mountain bike tracks.

“This project is shovel ready so should proceed very quickly giving health lifestyle options to locals and bringing more tourists and therefore jobs to the West Coast,” Senator Martin said.

“The funding comes from the 2018/19 Federal Budget, so it has no impact on election costings, so I would encourage the Labor Party to match our commitments and guarantee these projects go ahead regardless of who wins the election.”

“I congratulate Mayor Phil Vickers and his team for the compelling case they put to me and I am glad that Deputy Prime Minister and Nationals Leader Michael McCormack has agreed to commit the funding,” Senator Martin said.

“It is all about our agenda to get a fair share for regional Tasmania and help build stronger local communities.”
