Devonport small businesswoman contests Senate for Nationals

Well known East Devonport identity and small businesswoman Wendy Hilditch will contest the second spot on the Tasmanian Nationals Senate ticket.

The announcement was made outside Ms Hildtich’s Dockside Cafe in East Devonport on Tuesday by Leader of the Nationals in the Senate Nigel Scullion and Tasmanian Nationals Leader, Senator Steve Martin.

Senator Scullion said he was pleased to launch the campaign of a hard working small buisness operator committed to regional Tasmania.

“Wendy gets up at 4am to prepare a first or final Tassie breakfast for people leaving or boarding the Spirit of Tasmania. I can’t think of a better ambassador for this great state,” Senator Scullion said.

Senator Martin said Ms Hilditch was the type of down to earth, plain speaking candidate that differentiated the Nationals from other parties.

“Everyone in East Devonport and beyond knows Wendy for her kindness, her opinions and of course her breakfasts,” Senator Martin said.

Ms Hilditch said she had decided to throw her hat in the ring after watching Steve Martin deliver for the area first as Mayor of Devonport and more recently as a Tasmanian Nationals senator.

“Steve’s not just the kind of person we need in Canberra, he is the one person we really need in Canberra to keep getting a fair share for regional Tasmania,” Ms Hilditch said.

‘He’s got a knack of flying back with a bag full of cash for great local projects and that is just one reason I am stoked to be on his team.”
