Key projects on Brighton Council’s priority list will become a reality thanks to $7.7m in grants from the Nationals in Government, Tasmanian Nationals Senator Steve Martin has announced.
Senator Martin delivered the good news at the Pontville Recreation Grounds in Brighton in the company of Lyons Nationals candidate Deanna Hutchinson, Brighton Mayor Tony Foster and other locals.
“This is not an election promise; this is real money from the 2018/19 Commonwealth Budget,” Senator Martin said.
“The Nationals in Government are providing $6 million for the Brighton Regional Sports Centre upgrade, which includes building a new facility including gymnasium, club rooms, meeting rooms, change rooms, function space, dining and commercial kitchen.”
“A further $1.7m will go toward the development of the Bridgewater Parklands to cater for growing community needs including landscaping, water, lighting, soft infrastructure, play equipment and parking,”
“Deanna Hutchinson and I visit these communities, listen to what locals want and then I go and fight for them in Canberra.”
Senator Martin said it was great news that Deputy Prime Minister and Nationals Leader Michael McCormack had agreed to release the money.
“It is all about our agenda to get a fair share for regional Tasmania and help build stronger local communities,” Senator Martin concluded.
