Childrens Book Council of Australia (TAS) - elected to the committee in 2016 and re-elected 2017.
Devonport Readers Cup - initiated the inaugural Devonport Readers Cup which attracted eight local primary schools to compete.
Formed the Mersey Community Hospital Support Group in an effort to regain services and staffing levels to the Mersey Community Hospital. Represented the community at large in tackling the Tasmanian Government and the health corporation Healthscope.
Member of Devonport Fire Brigade for past 40 years. Held position of 2nd Officer for three years, during which time awarded “Most Efficient Volunteer Tasmanian Brigade” on two occasions.
Tasmanian Fire Service Charity Run – past 17 years, Devonport Coordinator for 5 years. The run has raised over $300,000 for worthy charities.
Founder and coordinator “The Charity Golf Day” previously played in Ulverstone. Event has raised over $32,000 for worthy charities such as Make a Wish, Guide Dogs, Heart Foundation, Royal Flying Doctors and recently Cancer Council of Tasmania.
Enormity is a not for profit, community based teenage committee that was formed in 1996 to involve young people in positive real life, entrepreneurial, community and fun activities/events, change community attitude towards young people and to address the lack of relevant affordable entertainment for their age group, attacking boredom and associated problems.
Over the past 22 years members of the committee have conducted concerts, Easter Egg Hunts, raised funds for worthwhile charities through the staging of events, met and talked with Prime Ministers, State Governors and have contributed to their community.
The group’s public appeal for the donation of winter coats for those in need or homeless has raised and distributed over 99,200 items including coats from Elle McPherson, Kevin Sheedy, Collette Dinnigan and singing group Killing Heidi. Prime Ministers John Howard, Kevin Rudd, Julia Gillard, Tony Abbott and Malcolm Turnbull have also contributed.
The committee members through their actions learnt from both their failures and successes. They challenged what was the norm and in the process gained valuable real life experiences.
