"Six years ago, I stood for election as an independent candidate for the Legislative Council seat of Mersey having fears that services were being reduced, with the Department of Economic Development and Mersey pacemaker clinic already relocated out of area.
Though not elected, I'm proud to say that the pacemaker clinic was forced back into the district to the Mersey Community Hospital (MCH).
The constant threat of service reduction at the MCH also effected my independent candidacy in the following state and federal elections. It was important that the loss of services at the MCH remained as an issue during the elections, as any loss of services would result in community costs, job and business activity losses.
The MCH, whilst providing important medical services, is also one of the largest employers of the district and is a contributing factor to why the area is one of the fastest growing in the country.
The continuing fight for the MCH is not just about medical services, it's also about people, jobs, economics and our community.
Representing the District of Mersey can not just be a job.
It must be a passion."
Thank you,
